Additionally, Blu-Ray exclusive studios have slowed down releases recently.  Over the summer there is now very limited list of exclusive b-list releases. The more exciting titles are coming from Warner and Paramount as dual format releases.

Studio' like Sony, MGM, Fox and Disney are just not releasing their quality movies.  Also, even more depressing to BR is the fact that Fox/MGM has stopped releases entirely. Warner has held back catalog  
titles like Batman Begins and Matrix trilogy from BR because BD-J on BR the interactive format isn't finalized.  Also, disc manufacturing for BR is an issue as they can't make enough discs to meet demand.

Toshiba Lowers 2007 HD DVD Player Sales Projections

Despite the recent hullabaloo about HD DVD dominating the stand-alone high-def disc player market, it seems HD DVD-backer Toshiba isn't selling as many HD DVD players in North America as it had originally projected.

The manufacturer said Tuesday that it now expects to sell 1 million HD DVD players and recorders in North America by the end of its fiscal year (ending March 2008), down 44 percent from its previous estimate of 1.8 million unit sales.

The announcement came as a surprise to industry observers, following several widely-reported announcements of strong HD DVD player sales in recent weeks, which had been attributed to a $100 rebate program for HD DVD players currently being offered by Toshiba at many U.S. retailers.

Toshiba had previously said it expected worldwide sales of around 3 million units for the same period, but today the company declined to provide a new estimate just yet, with Yoshihide Fujii, head of Toshiba's digital consumer business saying, "obviously we are going to have to lower our previous global estimate."

MGM已经停止发布蓝光标题

从东芝发布新款HD DVD录像机的报道中，真的是能发现一些媒体的倾向性，本来新产品是重点，但却把发布会上的一些话当成重点。X-bit Labs更是说“Toshiba Cuts HD DVD Player Sales Estimates after Unsuccessful Promo Campaign”，IT Media也直接以东芝降低销售目标为标题。我觉得真是有些哭笑不得。相对来说，AV Watch的报道最为客观和中立。

下调HD DVD影碟机的销售预期，我觉得并没什么大不了的，而且东芝也很坦承说日本市场上HD DVD影碟机至今的销量仍然没有达到1万，这种作风是我所欣赏的。东芝也强调了，销售不如意，要归于价格不够低，虽然现在是299美元，但与普及线199美元还有距离的。也许今年会有199美元的HD DVD影碟机，但肯定也不会是东芝的，所以按东芝自己的产品规划，以现有的销售态势调低目标是很正常的（总比一些Console死要面子，结果一统计没达到预期目标诚实一些吧）。在宣布北美市场领先的同时公开打退堂鼓，不是有病吗？
