[业评] 开发者抱怨:XBOXone四两压千斤

Xbox One的eSRAM是导致主机不能在一些游戏上达到1080P分辨率的原因已经不是秘密了。Popcap最近公开宣布《植物大战僵尸:花园战争》将只能达到900P的分辨率,而《神偷4》也只能在Xbox One上达到这个分辨率。

  虽然有这么多缺点,但是仍然有游戏开发者在以前曾经表示这个内存也有很多好处。然而业内人士famousmortimer最近引用了一名曾经参与制作一部重要Xbox One游戏的游戏开发者的言论,认为eSRAM非常笨重而缓慢。

  在采访中,famousmortimer透露说:“我真受不了软饭对四两的发挥抱有热烈的期望。这已经不可能了。有些软饭认为esram是个神器,而事实上它非常笨重缓慢,并且有瓶颈。他们总认为微软使用了这个内存,所以它肯定很特别强大。当我听到他们总是说开发商需要学习如何合理使用这个内存的时候,就像我听到让人学习如何使用最简单工具一样可笑。eSRAM并不是高科技,甚至根本不复杂。只是个垃圾而已。”

  这个言论同Rebellion Games的Jean-Baptiste Bolcato几个星期以前的言论相同。同时我们要指出,尽管这种内存缓慢笨重,他可以远程传输高细节的材质。

  Xbox One不能以高清分辨率运行像《植物大战僵尸:花园战争》这种相对较小的游戏是令人吃惊的。

Well known industry insider, Pete Dodd aka 'Famousmortimer' has shared another set of juicy information regarding Microsoft's next-gen Xbox console, Xbox One via Twitter. This time, details are regarding Xbox One's ESRAM comparison with Xbox 360's EDRAM and how soon the developers can make full use of it.

PS4 vs Xbox OneIn a recent Twitter conversation, Pete Dodd was asked to comment on Xbox One's ESRAM, "whether recent leak stating that its Super Fast and Expensive" is TRUE?, to which he replied, "ESRAM in Xbox One is faster than DDR3 but not as faster as GDDR5, its Bottleneck, Plain and Simple."

"Its faster than DDR3, but not much faster than GDDR5 (used in PS4: 8GB DDR5 RAM), there's only 32 MB, its Bottleneck, plain and simple", tweeted Dodd.

Dodd further explained, things will get better as time progresses but it won't be available to sustain the speed which GDDR5 offers.

"But like most bottlenecks they will get better at getting around it. But it will never have the sustained speed of gddr5."

When Twitter user "josh hanlon" asked if developers will get used to Xbox One's ESRAM yet or not?, Todd replied, there's not much difference between ESRAM and EDRAM (which is used in Xbox 360) so developers will get used to it as time passes but it's not exactly foreign.

"ESRAM isn't all that different than edram which is what the 360 used. Devs will get better with it but it's not exactly foreign"

So there you have it folks, use whatever term you can "Resolution-Gate, ESRAM Gate", Xbox One seems to lack PS4's qualities in every important department.


@23hanlon It's faster than ddr3, but it's not much faster than gddr5 and there's only 32mb of it. It's a bottleneck, plain and simple.

It’s no secret that Xbox One’s eSRAM is the culprit behind the console’s inability to output 1080p [with full effects on] on certain multiplatform games. It was revealed today that the PvZ: Garden Warfare runs at 900p on the Xbox One and earlier this week, it was confirmed that Thief will also run at the same resolution.

Despite, the shortcomings, several developers have confirmed to us in the past that the eSRAM can be used in beneficial ways. Well know industry insider famousmortimer quoted a developer who has worked on a major Xbox One game [he is the same source that revealed before the console's launch that Xbox One Party Chat had issues]. The ‘Xbox One Dev’ believes that eSRAM is cumbersome.

“I don’t get this obsession with MS fanboys wanting the more powerful machine. Its not happening. Who cares. There are xbox fans who think esram is this mystical thing when all it is is cumbersome, bottlenecking memory. But its in there so it HAS to be special. When I hear people say devs need to just utilize esram better, its like saying they need to learn how to do the most basic thing again. Esram isn’t rocket science, it isn’t even complex. Its just a pain in the a**. That’s it,” famousmortimer revealed on NeoGaf.

This falls in line with what Jean-Baptiste Bolcato from Rebellion Games told us a few weeks back. It’s also important to note that despite its shortcomings, it has this ability to stream highly detailed textures, something we have covered extensively in the past.

It’s indeed surprising the Xbox One is not able to render lighter games [tech wise] like PvZ: Garden Warfare in full HD. What are your thoughts on the same?

GOOGLE翻译中看到说ESRAM可以处理非常详细的纹理,不知是什么 意思?不要BS我哈,我英文基本不认识。
