Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce claims his side are on the brink of signing United striker Alan Smith.
The England international has been linked away from Old Trafford all summer, with Sir Alex Ferguson admitting that Smith's desire for regular first-team football has raised questions over his future.
Newcastle are the latest club to be linked with the firebrand 26-year-old, following mooted interest from Everton and Middlesbrough, among other clubs.
Allardyce told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle: "I am hoping that the Alan Smith deal will go through on Thursday. He has other clubs to consider and I am hoping we are top of his list."
The England striker moved to Old Trafford from Leeds United in 2004 for £7million, and has scored 12 goals in 93 Reds appearances.
曼联确认已经和纽卡斯尔就史密斯的转会费达成一致,他现在正和纽卡商讨个人条款。
