相傳long time no see係中國籍水手或金山阿伯(極可能是廣東人)講嘅broken English，起源於1900年代美國西岸，是「好耐冇見」的直譯，典型Chinglish，鬼佬叫pidgin(中式英語)，但約定俗成，這詞現已完全廣泛地為人所接受。當然，你唔會見到blue blood嘅英國貴族或皇室講咁錯嘅英文。正式當然係 I haven't seen you for a long time. 除long time no see外，還有 long time no talk。一般場合，甚至商界，都可以用，唔會失禮。
