The Japanese just have a weird idea about what is "cool".

All those skinny, long legged, female-faced manga and anime heros who strike a stupid pose all the time and either hold endless monologues about friendship, betrayal, revenge or love, or throw around cheesy one-liners, are absolutely ridiculous.
And the more those otaku idiots try to "westernize" their characters, the more ridiculous it gets.
